When a cross breed puppy is bought from a pet shop, we are often asked what mix of breeds we think it has in it. Is this HUGE pup with long legs really a chihuahua x pug?
We often take a guess based on the pups size, colour, conformation and nature. Its tricky and very subjective.
Now we finally have a solution! Our laboratory ASAP can now run a DNA test that determines your dogs ancestry! They use the cells captured on a swab from your dogs cheek. They then extract the DNA from these cells and compare it to the DNA profiles that they have on hand. At this point in time, ASAP laboratories has the DNA profile for 185 different breeds of dog!!
With your results you will receive a booklet of information containing your dogs family tree and details about the breeds identified including size, weight and characteristics.
Not only is this a lot of fun and really interesting but learning your dogs true ancestry can often help to explain its behaviour! For example, finding out that your dog has 50% Border Collie in him might help explain why he herds the other dogs at the park!!
